DonChambers X Fre$co [The Urrday tape" Interview

The tape was unbelievable, the music was easy to vibe to and gives you that laid back chilln' feeling.

Whats up  how are you guys doing today?

[Fre$co] Living on a high really things are coming together despite some minor mobile dl issues feedback on the tape has been exceptional.

Don the last time I met with you, you told me you were working on a lot of new music and a couple of projects and you told me they'd be good.. you didn't disappoint, so how did the tape come together?

{DonChambers}  it wasn't initially going to be a tape a lot of those songs were just songs we were knocking out, then we decided we might as well put them out and once we started listening to them we started seeing a theme within the music

Why the name "The Urrday tape"?

{DonChambers} We titled it "The Urrday Tape" because the songs are sequenced as a day in the life something people could play everyday.. somewhat as a soundtrack to someone's day if they wanted it to be.

[Fre$coIn the latter stages of the tape, we began trying to formulate a name. We noticed the songs really fell in place without us necesarilly creating the records to fit a tracklist. The feel of the records we already had have us the idea to gave the tape chronicle a day in the life. "The Routine ep" was the name we sat on for about a week, but we wanted something catchier that captured the culture and the Urrday tape came about.

"We titled it "The Urrday Tape" because the songs are sequenced as a day in the life something people could play everyday.. somewhat as a soundtrack to someone's day if they wanted it to be."

What influenced the songs on this tape?

[Fre$coSo much different shit. One thing we knew going into basically every individual record is we wanted to make this "Conscious Trap" kinda sound. Every song had to be a banger, something to ride to, and most importantly something honest. For example, Substance Abuse I say some things in there that pertained to peple x events in my life that very week rather negative or positive. The hook was free styled and the variance of "dunno wtf I'm think, wtf I'm drinking" was purely a drunken mistake that ended being dope.

{DonChambers}  most of the songs were created purely off of freestyle sessions over beats..we honestly have a lot more music to make based off of those sessions so expect more.

How long was this tape in the making?

we started recording most of these songs around September of last year.

Fresco why do you think you and Don collaborating comes so natural?

[Fre$co] We both believe heavily in the art of the freestyle and being able to find catchy ways to say what's on our mind. We have that knowledge of what's good, what people like, and  what a good melody consists of. Freedom, respect, and friendship is essential to the collab. If I can't vibe out in the studio with you we can't work. If you play around we can't work. Don & I have a competitive nature but its for the greater good which is to make the track better for the listener.

What was you guy's favorite songs (pick 2) on the tape?

{DonChambersmy favorite songs from the tape are the  highs and homies (interlude) and the substance abuse track, everything from the beats to the flows and energy are captivating.

[Fre$co] Show & Tell is a definite favorite of mine. The hook is organic, straight to the point, catchy and the song itself had 3 different elements with the Star Wars references, the open ended invite for competition in the music realm and of course a chick showing you wassup. We all have that girl we've messed with that tries to stunt in public. I'm Whippin' because it's real and the energy is amazing. The feel of desperation and it was the climax record where we knew the sound for the tape. The opening up until Don's part is free styled. It's astonishing every time I listen and Don did an exceptional job putting together the screwed segment.

What plans do you guys have for the year of 2014?

{DonChambers} we plan on putting out alot more music, fans can expect solo projects from "The New W~VE Collective" which includes myself (Don Chambers), Fre$co, C-Mac and J.Ice who are also feature on The Urrday Tape, another collab tape possibly by the summer and some shows and videos

[Fre$co] First solo effort, The Natural Ep shooting for an April Fools release. New Wave collab tape this. New apparel and merchandise. Hopefully some vids by {TerellWheelerFilms} lol. Shows, the whole nine.

Last words?

{DonChambersthanks to everyone who is supporting the mixtape by downloading it and spreading the music and i hope u all keep following the movement we're creating..

[Fre$co] We're looking for committed singer/songwriters, producers, engineers. Interested in new features as well and if you haven't downloaded Urrday do so it's free crack.

YE ALI : ART X DRUGS interview

From the looks of twitter the response to Art X Drugs has been great, I'm really liking the laid back feel it has to it and how some of the songs sound really different from a lot of music.

What is Art X Drugs what does it mean to you?

Art is my drug. Everyone has a drug or addiction of choice and mine happens to be music, fashion and film.

Are you trying to convey anything through the tape?

I am giving people good music, that’s it. Sometimes I feel like I have something that could change someones day or save their life. The project is a cohesive journey into love, money, sex and triumph. Life isn’t different for anybody, rich or poor…we all live a life with similar components. That’s all I wanted to do…Bring my Life ALIVE via music

"I am giving people good music, that’s it. Sometimes I feel like I have something that could change someones day or save their life."

What was your creative process like working on this tape?

It took 2 years. Half of it recorded in 2012….the other half in 2013. I did not want to rush it and I wanted to find a sound that could define what my music is. I worked closely with producer/singer Lyfe Harris. He mixed and mastered the album so he is responsible for a lot of the tape sonically. I just stayed in the dungeon and experimented with some sounds until I was satisfied. Art x drugs is not finished. This is just the version I decided to go with (ha)

"Cash.Up.Front"  was one of my favorite songs mainly because it's a little more aggressive but what song or songs do you think resonate with you the most and why?

Cash.up.front is awesome to me. My favorites include “My reasons, 7 days and “Right there”

My reasons is a potential club banger with RNB undertones that almost everyone could relate to. Its also catchy, “I love these hoes I got my reasons” . I wanted to really push the envelope with my hook writing and capture the element of melody as well as surprising people.

7 days is fun because its just me describing how I feel about women all the time, 7 days a week

Right there was produced by Lyfeharris and ive never heard vocals or a beat like this

Can you explain a little bit about Vintage Club and any plans you guys have in store for the year of 2014?

Vintage Club is just a lifestyle, I don’t want people to be confused about what it is , but also I do not want to divulge any plans…but it is going to surprise a lot of people

I will be at SXSW and will be working on some songwriting for some artists

Is there anything else you'd like viewers to know?
