Cory Carpenter Interview

whats up Cory?
Im listening to good music and thinking about running to a toilet. White Castle is no fun..

whats your obsession with Bill Cosby haha?
Hahah uhhhh its just not Bill Cosby, I love me some Whoopi. Whoopi Goldberg grew on me for some reason haha. No but for real, Gene Wilder is my true love.

ok now for the real questions, you're pretty talented at a lot of things from what I know, so why did you choose photography?
I wouldn't say talented, haha. But I took a photography class freshman year and it sort of just evolved from that. The photography class was a black and white darkroom course so we worked with everything and learned how to develop film and make prints. I think the only reason i kept with it was because of film photography. It's really different these days to have something that you can actually feel. Its all real. No digital jazz here homedawg.

I know you're pretty well known by a lot of skateboarders for your skateboard photography, why did you choose to photograph skateboarding?
i hate this question haha. There is nothing I want to photograph in Castleton other than skating! Or maybe there is, but i just cant get motivated. I really do want to get into street photography and do some kind of portrait series with strangers. But i'll save that for when I start going to college downtown.

Do you take pictures of anything else?
I do a lot of portraits of friends. People all say its for facebook but i'm really just looking at getting better with composition most of the time. Composition really makes me go crazy even though you might not be able to see it in some of my photography.

What motivates you to get out and take pictures?
Not cold weather, thats for sure. I didnt want some little B@#$% taking my senior photos, so I'm doing them on my own and it's taking me foreverrrrrr because this Indy weather. But I guess hanging out with friends always motivates me and reading skate magazines always helps.

Whats your choice of camera or cameras and why?
Call me a hipster, but film cameras. You all can have fun with your "photography" on your little instagram app, but I would always pick my Chinon cg-5 over any of that. It was my first camera and its always been nice to me.

In the future do you plan to keep progressing and furthering your career in photography?
I will always practice photography but i have no idea about the future. Honestly if every film plant shut down right now, i wouldn't shoot much at all. Digital photography isnt real, once you hit the shutter everything is converted into data.

Some of your favorite photographers?
Anyone obsessed with symmetry and composition is good with me.

Links to your photography?
ughhhh. http://www.flickr.com/photos/carpenter123/
Thats not updated, but i'll fix that soon

Last words?
Uhhhhh
